Like most 'ballpoint artists' I've been sketching in ballpoint pen since grade school. Some of my earliest 'drawing memories' are of copying superheroes from comic books using chewed-on Bic pens. Filling all the margins of my notebooks in middle school with eyeballs and flames, always in ballpoint... It was only natural to start sketching with it as an adult. But it wasn't until I got to grad school at the New York Academy of Art that I started sketching 'seriously' with it. So many of the alumni, and a couple of the teachers, were prolific ballpoint artists. And I was already into silverpoint which in terms of handling is very similar. So I started working with ballpoint in a purposely 'illustrative' style because half of my art-heroes are illustrators. The result are these drawings. Most of them completed over the past several years.
